Young Female Leader Breaks Stereotypes in Thailand's Auto Industry

Jittirat Tantasirin is breaking barriers in Thailand's traditionally male-dominated auto industry. She is the CEO of two Mercedes-Benz dealers. When Covid-19 took hold, she saw a chance to for change. A ‘Digital Smart Space’ was set up, including a contactless assistant called ATTA Bot. “If you come in the showroom, you can meet our robot reception,” said Jittirat. “It will follow you to through the showroom, like everywhere you go.” According to the latest global gender gap report by World Economic Forum, Thailand places in the middle – ranking 79 out of 156 countries. While it fares better than many regional neighbors, Jittarat says more still needs to be done in Thailand to support women in the workplace. She’s been challenging gender stereotypes, putting more women in charge. Last year, Jittirat won a UN Women’s award. She said she wanted to create an environment where all staff feel safe and empowered. "I feel that sexual harassment is the topic that we should be able to speak openly on the table," she said.
