From circa 1770 until his death (5th of March, 1811), Axsen lived and worked in Amsterdam. Only two instruments have survived, one of which is in the Grote Kerk in Weesp, which is in a good condition, and the other instrument in the Haags Gemeentemuseum. He also occasionally had lessons from Booette Roed and Marco Magelhaes. Fons Brouwer was born in 1963 (Amsterdam - Netherlands). He studied organ with Simon C. Jansen ('76-'80). After his graduation at the Vossius Gymnasium, Fons Brouwer continued his organ studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Jacques van Oortmerssen ('80-'86). At the same conservatory Fons Brouwer studied composition with Daan Manneke ('85-'93) and orchestration with Geert van Keulen. In addition, he also attended masterclasses given by the composers Morton Feldman and John Cage in The Festival of Contemporary Music Zeeland. In 1993 he received the composition award of the Sweelinck Conservatory. Fons Brouwer worked as an editor at the publishing house and library of contemporary Dutch music Donemus. He composed works for a wide variety of instruments and ensembles. Most of his works have been published by Donemus - Amsterdam. His stringquartet Tempera was selected for the final-round of the BUMA - Concours1993. Quintessens for organ (1993) was recorded on compact disc by Christine Kamp (VIO 9502). In 2003 he composed Festina Lente for organ in meantone temperament for the Van Covelens organ (1511) in the Grote Kerk, Alkmaar.
