Some say she sold her soul, Some say she made a pact, That she was never seen again, Remains the only fact! (Rodney Allen) Following her unfortunate turn of events, Nancy took refuge in a cave at Ham Wood, where it is said that she scraped out a living by creating potions from foraged ingredients. Her story takes a haunting turn with the arrival of the Great Storm in November 1703. The winds were so fierce that many believed the world was coming to an end, the storm claimed many souls, including the tragic demise of Bishop Kidder and his wife at the nearby Bishop's Palace in Wells, as two chimney stacks collapsed through their roof. But what happened to Nancy in the midst of this cataclysmic storm? No one can say for certain, yet Shepton's residents whispered that above the howling wind, they heard a bone-chilling shriek. Once the storm had exhausted itself, the townsfolk ventured to check on Nancy's well-being, only to find her cave empty, devoid of any trace. This local old hag had vanished into the mists of history, leaving behind a mystifying tale. Legend has it that she was spirited away by the devil himself during that terrible storm, and that marks that are etched into the ground of the entrance of the cave are those of Nancy as she dug her nails into the ground as she was dragged away. To this day, it's said that occasionally, she and her donkey can be heard wandering the streets and lanes of Shepton Mallet, searching for unsuspecting souls to accompany her on her ethereal journey. https://extours.co.uk/extours-history... #livemusic #punkrocklive #punkrock #GurtDog
