Soft-mounting your kwad flight controller is as important as ever. Yes, this is important even with the latest Betaflight, Raceflight or KISS filters. Some say it doesn’t matter, but you can’t really bend physics. Even with filters, the less noise that gets into your gyro, the better your quadcopter will fly. For a while now guys have been using o-rings at the top and bottom of their flight controller. A better solution has been using rubber or silicone bobbins to support the flight controller in your quad instead of hard standoffs. However, the folks at Raceflight had the right idea when they started making the holes in their flight controllers bigger in order to fit silicone gummies (silicone inserts) into each corner of the FC to decouple the standoff bolt from the the FC board. This basically eliminates any direct contact between the standoff bolt and the FC greatly reducing vibes. Not all flight controller designers have caught on yet. The Bardwell F4 by Race Day Quads comes with gummies. So does the CL Racing F4S and all the Raceflight stuff. In this video I’ll show you how I drill a Motolab Tempest F4 to make the holes bigger in order to fit gummies into it. This cannot be done with all FCs, I explain why… but there are many out there than can benefit from it. I’ve also done it to some ESCs as well, like the Hobbywing XRotor BLHeli_S 4in1 ESC and the Spedix GS35 BLHeli32 4in1 ESC. Subscribe to my channel for technical content like this.
