Join me for one of the most incredible adventures of my life – our trek off the beaten track, to the summit of Mera Peak in the breathtaking Himalayas of Nepal. Mera Peak stands tall at 6,476 meters (21,247 feet), making it Nepal's highest trekking peak and a dream destination for adventurers like us seeking that ultimate Himalayan adventure. Our journey began with a scenic helicopter flight from Kathmandu into Lukla, known as one of the most dangerous airports in the world due to its challenging runway carved into the mountainside. From there, we trekked away from the usual route and went down the mountain towards Surke and then around many ridges and velleys, through picturesque Sherpa villages, dense rhododendron forests, and crossing rushing glacial rivers, soaking up every bit of the quieter side of Khumbu region's natural beauty. As we traversed the less populated side of the mountains, we repeatedly gained altitude and dropped back down again. Days went by without passing a single tourist on the trail. Slowly the landscape changed – lush greenery gave way to barren, snow-covered slopes, before dropping back down into the forest again as we finally joined the common High Pass Trail and made our way from 3,600m to Khare at 5,000m As the air grew thinner, these acclimatization stops were crucial to prepare our bodies for the challenge ahead, but nothing could truly prepare us for the awe-inspiring views that awaited above 5,000m The final push to Mera Peak's summit was both physically and mentally demanding. 2am, we roped up, donned our crampons, and under the guidance of our experienced Sherpa team, tackled the steep ascent. The feeling of standing on that summit, surrounded by towering Himalayan giants like Everest and Lhotse, is something I will never forget – a mix of exhilaration, humility, and pure awe at the beauty of our planet.
