Dan Turk here with an unexpected update from the high seas. In this report, I’m sharing the wild story of an incident that happened aboard Little Bea—a close encounter with what I believe was a small whale! 📍 The Details: Time: 19:20 UTC Location: Coordinates shared with the fleet (just in case there are more whales in the area!). What Happened: While recording an audio update with my media girl, Holly, we heard a loud CRASH as Little B hit something at 6 knots. The impact slowed us down to 2 knots, lifted the bow out of the water, and caused two distinct bangs—likely hitting the hull and keel. 🔍 The Aftermath: Boat Check: Rudder, hydrovane, and wind pilot are all fine. No water ingress, no damage to the bowsprit or deck. The Whale: No visual confirmation, but the size of the impact suggests it was a small whale or large marine creature. 🎙️ Bonus: the actual audio of the crash captured during the media call recording—it’s pretty intense! Everything’s under control, and both Little Bea and I are safe.
