REVIEW ON LETTERBOXD: https://letterboxd.com/film/when-a-do... A witch brings a doveweed into the office of an irate plant doctor for a checkup. They both get more than they bargained for; the checkup goes awry, and the two discover they’re tethered together more than they knew. (mild spoiler below) Note from the director: Hey, y'all! If you don't know me, my name is Sarah Beliveaux Picard, and I wrote/directed this film! I received a grant to make it as a part of Louisiana State University's Geaux Film program, and this was completed my final semester in their Film/TV BFA program. I feel extremely lucky to not only have the opportunity to make this film at all, but especially so for being able to work with all the amazing people in the crew! A lot of love from a lot of different fronts was poured into this humble project, and I look back on the days of principal photography very fondly as some of the best times of my college career. They were very joyous, and the whole crew was like a well-oiled machine. To throw out a few specific shoutouts, I want to thank Maura McErlean, Caitlin Church, Ricardo Mendoza, and Marina Deyoe-Pedraza for ensouling the characters; my cinematographer, Miss Abbie Lestrade, for her kino-eye was foundational to the amazing look of the film; Simone Jackson and Alissa Clemmons, who made the scene and plant come to life; and ESPECIALLY my wonderful producer, Ethan Hood, for making the greatest producer I could have asked for. He was the North Star that kept me bound for the project succeeding like it did. I'm grateful for each member of the crew individually, and I owe them all so much. One fun memory I'd like to regale y'all with is when we were testing the blood splatter (semi-spoilers, be ware,) we only had one shot to hit the Doctor, since we only had the one white lab coat, and so it became necessary to test the aim/technique of the blood splatter from the turkey baster. I let them spray me with it a couple times, and we all had a ball! I neglected for the rest of the day that I looked to be drenched in blood, and so when other drivers on my ride home would look at me cockeyed from their cars, I was very confused. At the Take 11 festival at LSU, we are honored to have won Best Actress (Maura Mac the Maniac) Best Picture, and Audience choice, and the New Work award at the Chain NYC Film Festival! We were also featured in Marche Du Film and the inaugural Baton Rouge Underground Film Festival. We also had a fun screening at the Wonderground venue here in Baton Rouge, which is a smaller punk venue; totally cool! I can't tell y'all enough how much I love and appreciate every one of y'all who hosted our film and who watched it, and if you enjoyed it, then that brings me a lot of happiness! All y'all keep making films and have a good rest of your day! -Sarah Bel
