Information on Amaryllis bulbs. Winter storage through bloom. I have grown Amaryllis since 1976 when my bride bought me one at a Safeway grocery store. The flowers are extremely beautiful and with care can bloom for many years and produce new bulbs for future flowers. The can be grown from seeds but it takes many years to bloom. They like to be pot bound. Pot should be no more than 3 inches wider than the bulb. Bulb needs to be at least 2 1/2 inches in diameter for it to bloom. The upper third to one half of the bulb should be above the soil line. Each year in the spring you should replace the potting soil in each pot for the new season's growth and flowering.
