Sow Nantes Carrot Seed, Germination Trick and Carrot Fly Protection

I, like others, have experienced frustration germinating carrots. Finally I found success using a few tricks for good germination, growing, and protection from Carrot Fly maggots. Last year I grew Negovia Nantes variety from Territorial Seed Co. and was super impressed with the results. I had a huge harvest and this particular carrot variety was crisp, sweet, and moderately sized. Hands down the best tasting carrot I’ve ever eaten. Keeping in the Nantes variety, I’m also growing MIGardner’s Scarlett variety this year. I’m excited to see how they stack up against each other. I (Tresa) am a passionate vegetable gardener, providing homegrown food for fresh eating, as well as preserving. I grow all my own seedlings and direct sows, as well as some seed saving. I also grow a variety of berries and recently planted 14 new fruit trees. I love to bake and cook from scratch, providing natural, organic, healthy meals.
