Stereotypes don’t appear out of a vacuum. They are entrenched in the psyches of the young. The earlier one gets to the formative years of students the easier it is to indoctrinate false narratives and misrepresentations. Such is the case with the stereotyping of Arabs in the West. It all begins with education, and with whatever little the Arab world is studied during schooling, most is of the negative kind. Themes such as strangeness, primitiveness, violence mainly echo the texts and imagery presented in Western textbooks. Topics such as terrorism, petroleum wealth and authoritarianism also are some of the key takeaways for many students. The brainwashing of Western youth has a substantial impact on how the general Western populations view today socio-political events.
