Hoff, M.D. Cardiac Surgeon at Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Insitute [TRANSCRIPT]: - My name is Dr. Steven Hoff, and I'm the associate chief of cardiac surgery and director of arrhythmia surgery at Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute. A part of Baptist Health. When I was in high school, I met a cardiologist in my hometown that allowed me to spend some time with him in the hospital. And I was always interested in the heart. As I got further along in my medical training, I realized I wanted to be a surgeon. So I paired my interest in the heart with my interest in surgery. And once I began to explore cardiac surgery I had found my calling. My particular clinical interests include a minimally invasive surgery for coronary artery disease. That is blockages that patients accumulate in their heart arteries that may lead to heart attacks. I'm also particularly interested in surgery to treat heart rhythm disturbance, such as atrial fibrillation. We're involved in multiple clinical trials to treat different heart rhythm disturbances including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and inappropriate science tachycardia. These are international clinical trials. For me, the most important quality I believe I possess as a physician is a hands on attitude. I'm extremely involved in the care of my patients from their evaluation through their surgery and their postoperative recovery.
