Racing a Honda-Swapped Daihatsu Charade in Autocross and Rallycross

In the early months of the 2026 motorsport season, I took my 1993 Daihatsu Charade project car to two very different racing events. First was the 1st Round of Super Sprint in Riverpark, General Trias, a grassroots autocross-style event where drivers have limited runs to set their fastest time on a cone course. Two weeks later, the same car went to the RallyDev Project trackday in Angat, Bulacan, held inside a rock crushing plant—this time sliding around on loose surfaces. The Charade is still very much a work-in-progress. With a Honda D15B engine swap, experimental suspension setup, and plenty of quirks, every event becomes both a race and a test session. In this video, I share my experiences from both events and reflect on what grassroots motorsport means today. I’m no longer chasing motorsport glory. But returning to grassroots racing reminded me why we keep showing up at the track. The Charade may never be the fastest car in the paddock—but it might just be the most fun.
