Voices of Monroe County Kentucky Presented by William B. Harlan Memorial Library

On Saturday, September 3rd, William B. Harlan Memorial Library presented their first ever Voices of Monroe County, created through the WBHML Community Archives Project. The program featured stories of Monroe County, Kentucky performed by local talents Caylynn Cornwell, Connor Cornwell, Emily Gearlds, Ellie Graves, Austin "Finch" Lee, John Berry, Steve Stewart, and Monica Edwards. These performances, taken from stories written by Library Archivist Terry Simpson, include the following: "Country Stores and One Room School Houses," performed by Connor Cornwell "Queen of Coals": a feature on Anita Bartlett Monroe County's first black female entrepreneur and owner of R&S BBQ, performed by Caylynn Cornwell "Saralu": a feature on Saralu White, performed by Terry Simpson "Saralu and a Case of the Measles" anecdote, performed by Emily Gearlds and Ellie Graves "Field of Dreams": a feature on Radford Graves, who has donated land for a baseball and half football field in Tompkinsville, performed by John Berry, Steve Stewart, and Monica Edwards "Memories of Nokomaeh": a feature on the Native American ancestors of Austin “Finch” Lee, performed by Austin Lee Funding for the WBHML Community Archives Project provided by the ALA Humanites Grants for Libraries.
