SHOW NOTES In today’s episode of Talk Heathen, Katy Montgomerie and Sinn Sage explore the likelihood of god talking to angels, how to define the atheist position, ways to disprove the Abrahamic God and whether the creator is moral. Bobby in KY explains observations of theists who don’t know how to debate. Many theists have cognitive dissonance where they start with the belief and justify it. Sometimes sparking outrage is more valuable to theists than debate. If people in charge can keep you in fear then they can control you. Jamal in CA believes it is more likely for god to talk to an angel that talks to a man than something coming out of nothing. Is it easier to pick one god out of hundreds than admitting that you do not know? Why would one god make more sense than another? Why are prophecies in scriptures never precise? Why did god create things just to suffer? Why is it okay for the Quran to talk about child brides and women always covering their heads? Will in KS acknowledges that we do not know and is the position to take as an agnostic. We are more interested in the position of the claim than the terminology used. Whatever you are arguing about with a theist always gets back to god. Darius in CA explains that to disprove the Abrahamic God, you can ask the theist a series of questions revolving around logic and perfection. How is perfect defined and is it subjective? How does free will work when god allows us to murder but not fly? Is it really free will to be threatened with eternal torture as a punishment for not worshipping this god? Isn’t faith the default answer when arguing with theists? Dan in Canada asks if there has ever been plausible arguments for a deity, and asks if a creator would be moral if we were to presume a creator. It does not make sense that an all loving god is okay with slavery. The more specific the argument is for god, the more likely there are to be problems with that argument. It might be nice if moral gods existed but if the Christian god is real, that god is evil. The belief of god looking after us can be a privileged viewpoint. Thank you for tuning in today!
