Savate is more then just French Kickboxing. Savate footwork is the key to lots of angles you could use to bring your foot in. The modern boxe française is not lacking all the tricks, but some are not common knowledge anymore. And of course people who train muay thai or thai boxen didnt know, same could be true for practitioner from Karate or Tae kwon do. This this variation for the round kick with the front leg comes from a old fencing book from Leboucher "Manuel de la Boxe Francaise et Anglaise" - "La Boxe Francaise & English Boxing" from the 19th century. Old school Savate is a true martial art which does not have to hide behind other striking arts from today. And if you want to use high kicks in self defence in the street, you have to do them clever and Savate originates from the gangs of Paris! HEMA is not only about longsword, historical fencing could be recreate early la canne or savate as well, because it is different to the modern method in some ways, mostly according to the ruleset which is used today.
