BIG NEWS for ATR 42 and ATR 72 operators! This video breaks down EASA Proposed Airworthiness Directive Cancellation Notice (PAD-CN) 25-180-CN, which proposes to officially cancel the operational restrictions introduced by EASA AD 2016-0046. We explain the original safety concern regarding the Yaw Damper/Autopilot (YD/AP) and why EASA is now moving to remove this AD. AD Number & Issuing Authority: This is a Proposed Airworthiness Directive Cancellation Notice (PAD-CN) from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), referenced as PAD No.: 25-180-CN. Cancelled AD: This Notice proposes the cancellation of EASA AD 2016-0046, dated 09 March 2016. Design Approval Holder: ATR-GIE AVIONS DE TRANSPORT RÉGIONAL. Affected Models: ATR 42 and ATR 72 aeroplanes, specifically ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-212A aeroplanes. Applicability (Original AD): The original AD applied to aeroplanes modified in production by incorporating ATR modification 6977 (New Avionics Suite Standard 2), or modified in service by ATR Service Bulletin (SB) ATR42-31-0091 or ATR SB ATR72-31-1092. The Safety Concern (Original AD): The original AD addressed an unsatisfactory Yaw Damper/Autopilot (YD/AP) behaviour in 'single source operation' (e.g., one Air Data Computer (ADC) inoperative) upon a sudden engine power asymmetry at low Indicated Air Speed (IAS). This was due to limited YD authority, potentially requiring important flight control efforts and possibly resulting in a loss of control. Reason for Cancellation: ATR records confirm that only one in-service aircraft is equipped with the affected New Avionics Suite Standard (NAS STD) 2.0, and its Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) already includes the mandated restrictions from AD 2016-0046. The remaining fleet is either not affected or is equipped with newer NAS STD versions that are not subject to the unsafe condition. Therefore, the AD is proposed for cancellation. Mandatory Action: None. The cancellation means no further action is required for compliance with the previously mandated AD. Consultation Date: The consultation period for this Proposed AD-CN closes on 05 January 2026.
