WELCOME TO A WALK IN BERLIN Here i am walking around in Berlin city center and making walking tour videos in Berlin. A visit to the Kurfürstendamm, or Kudamm as Berliners call it, is a regular part of the visitor's program. The world-famous boulevard in the west of the city is not only known as a strolling mile because of its numerous shops - it is also worth strolling because of its architectural and cultural highlights. Popular shopping address The Kurfürstendamm is the lifeblood of the West Berlin and is one of the most famous streets in the world. Berlin's number one shopping mile is 3.5 kilometers long. The Bund is located in Charlottenburg between Breitscheidplatz and Halensee. On the wide sidewalks, Berliners and tourists stroll past elegantly decorated shop windows or sit down in one of the numerous cafés. At the corner of Joachimsthaler Straße, Berlin is a cosmopolitan metropolis. Large department stores and fashion shops line the Memorial Church , and toward Olivaer Platz, renowned luxury brands showcase their exclusive offerings. Once a bridleway for the electors... The street was built in the mid-16th century as a bridleway for the prince-electors in Berlin's Grunewald forest. At the request of Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, it became the Kurfürstendamm in 1886: a 53-meter-wide boulevard with theaters, cafés, and shops, entirely based on the French model. Upscale residential addresses in magnificent Wilhelminian-era buildings still adorn the side streets today. ...now a shopping mile with modern architecture On Kurfürstendamm, old and new architecture meet almost seamlessly. Behind the famous Café Kranzler at the corner of Joachimsthaler Straße, a low-rise building from the 1950s, the new Kranzler-Eck, a glass high-rise designed by architect Helmut Jahn, was built at the turn of the century. A shopping arcade connects the boulevard with Kantstraße. Across the street, at the corner of Joachimsthaler Straße, a ten-story hotel was built.
