Next up on the training curriculum is the J-Bomb... which... man... does this guy even really need a tutorial? He's quite easily the single most destructive tool in the Blast Corps arsenal ...and the ease of use is just fantastic. When flying the J-Bomb, I feel like I've entered some kind of cheat code and will have to play the level over again "for real" so I can get credit for having actually done something of value. Accordingly, this is also going to be one of the less-seen vehicle choices in actual stages, but that doesn't mean we won't have our fun while we can. It also means that if you're given J-Bomb privileges, you've either had to do some kind of ridiculous task just to REACH it (generally with little indication as to how you would do so) or it's just there to mop up with... generally both, so don't necessarily get excited if you see a J-Bomb icon listed on a stage as one of the available vehicles. Oh, and then there are a bunch of small non-carrier stages that will REALLY make you use the J-Bomb to its fullest... so just because you can hover over something and deliver instant and decisive divine judgment upon the sinful structures below doesn't mean you're all-powerful. Just... most-of-all-powerful... That said, there ARE some quirks we should probably familiarize ourselves with, not that they'll come into play for a bit. For starters... you won't really be winning any land or air speed records with the J-Bomb, which can make long-distance trips a bit of a chore... especially seeing as how the game's camera angle doesn't really give you the best view of where you're going. Furthermore, I guess rocket fuel is expensive, so the J-Bomb will actually float up and down in a roughly sinusoidal pattern if you just hold down the thrusters, so it's not like you're permanently freed from gravity's surly bonds. It's generally best to thrust only as much as you need to in order to clear an obstacle... like say some pesky skyscraper that was giving you the stink-eye and needed to be pancaked into glass dust and metal filings... It's also important to be mindful of your movement while you trigger the attack...its effective area is quite large and infinitely destructive, but it also doesn't stop you in place to do it, so if you're drifting lazily along as you fall, you might leave some lower parts of the building you had intended to flatten unscathed. This does have a weird little "upside" to it, though... since the attack is so wide, you can abuse the drift while you're making your catastrophic touchdown to hit a tall building sideways only partway up the height and let gravity take care of the rest. Obviously this isn't the intended function, but it's not like you have to fear anything from the debris that was SUPPOSED to be beneath you as you tore your way through the plasticine destructibles placed in your path. Otherwise... have fun? Or I will. You can't... but don't worry, I had it all for you. You can have what's left over.
