Haller Park Mombasa

Haller Park, formally Bamburi Nature Trail in Mombasa, was built from an old limestone Quarry, it covers a total of 75 hectares of land and has over 16,000 visitors each year. Bamburi Park was renamed Haller Park after all the work Dr Haller did to build the sanctuary out of wasteland and prides itself in conservation and the welfare of animals. A Documentary, Musical and Book was made about Owen the Hippo and Mzee the Tortoise, at Haller Park, they made an unusual friendship together. When Owen grew too big to be safely around Mzee, she was re housed in the Park and Cleo a female Hippo was introduced to Owen and they quickly bonded together as friends. We visited Haller Park in September 2011, we saw lots of beautiful animals, reptiles and birds, we had a wonderful time at Haller Park, it was very educational and we enjoyed interacting with all the animals.
