East African Safari - Day 1 (TARANGIRE)

There are very few experiences that compare to the adventure of an African safari. This four-part series covers an incredible 2022 safari into three different parks in East Africa: Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Guided by KANDOO ADVENTURES, our safari’s goal was to observe animals in their natural habitat. Tarangire National Park covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers. The landscape is composed of granitic ridges, river valley, and swamps. Serengeti National Park covers an area of approximately 14,763 square kilometers. The Serengeti is well known for the largest annual animal migration in the world of over 1.5 million blue wildebeest and 250,000 zebra and the largest lion population in Africa. Although the Serengeti is vast and covers part of Kenya, our time on this safari was spent entirely in Tanzania. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a protected area 180 km west of Arusha, Tanzania. The area is named after Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera within the area. The caldera measures approximately 16-19 km across and has an area of 264 square kilometers. Its heavily forested rim rises 2,000 feet above the caldera’s floor to an elevation of 7,500 feet.
