Across Microsoft, Adobe, and Intel, the message is consistent: AI is moving onto the device — and the NPU is the new standard. Software is being redesigned around local AI acceleration, and organisations sticking to older hardware risk slower performance, weaker security, and shorter device lifespan. Microsoft — Copilot+ PCs & the NPU Advantage Anders from Microsoft walked through how the new Copilot+ PC category works and why the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) now plays a critical role. Key points: A Copilot+ PC must have 40+ TOPS NPU, 16GB RAM, and 256GB storage. NPUs run AI workloads locally — reducing cloud reliance and offloading the CPU/GPU. Hundreds of software vendors, including Adobe, are already rewriting features to run on the NPU. Unique Windows features available only on Copilot+ PCs: Recall – jump back to what you’ve previously done using natural-language search. Windows Improved Search – find files by describing them (“forecast file for Blue Ledger”). Click-to-Do – summarise or extract content instantly. Agent in Settings – adjust system settings by simply describing what you need. Benefits measured in Microsoft’s studies: Up to 5 hours saved per week Up to 30% fewer device-management issues Built-in Pluton security blocks ~70% of common breach vectors. Adobe — Creativity & Document Workflows Reinvented Charlotte from Adobe demonstrated how Adobe’s AI ecosystem moves far beyond PDFs: Firefly, Express, and Acrobat Studio introduce AI-driven creation, design, summarisation, and collaboration tools. Adobe’s goal: AI as a creative co-pilot, accelerating ideas while keeping brand control and human creativity at the centre. Examples shown: Generative Fill in Photoshop Instant video and image enhancements AI-assisted document summarisation and Q&A in Acrobat Studio Adoption of generative AI is growing fast — especially among Gen Z and Millennials — and Adobe is embedding AI directly into workflows for all roles, not just designers. Intel — The Hardware Behind AI PCs Chloe and the Intel team explained how Intel builds the hardware foundation for AI PCs: The modern AI PC relies on three engines: CPU (sprinter) – instant responsiveness GPU (hurdler) – heavy visual and creative workloads NPU (marathon runner) – low-power, all-day AI tasks (blur, gaze correction, security, etc.) 250+ ISVs are optimizing for Intel, using OpenVINO to accelerate local AI. Examples shown: Deepfake detection Advanced background removal Local video editing tools using GPU + NPU Canvid: AI-assisted screen-recording with auto-subtitles, voice re-rendering, and synthetic webcam Skylum Luminar Neo: photo relighting, sky replacement, and depth-based editing Intel also previewed their next generation Core Ultra Series 3 (“Panther Lake”), landing in 2025 with higher NPU/CPU/GPU performance and support for 350+ AI-optimized apps.
