The video starts off with a short commentary on a recent discussion about design by picture vs design by use citing some examples of each : -design by picture; zt561, fallkniven pxl -design by use; R. J. Martin Modulator It also continues with some discussion about how folding knives with thick blades, short grinds and fairly heavy edges are not made for light cutting and are the wrong tool for that. Light cutting knives are : -Piranta, Douk Douk, Opinel and it takes an extreme design like the Piranta to strictly limit knives to no prying at all. In regards to the Village Parang : -chops poorly for its weight on thick wood -is barely usable on light vegetation -carves poorly This is because it has : -low primary grind -very thick/high angle edge -lots of weight in the handle (full tang) It does however split well and makes a decent hammer. The steel also grinds and sharpens easily even with natural abrasives, though of courses rusts easily as would be expected of any simple carbon steel.
