In this video, Brad Vorrie walks you through the process of connecting your Banner VE Smart Camera to an Allen Bradley PLC. The VE Camera from Banner engineering is the latest inspection tool that allows users an advanced means of inspection and catching errors in their manufacturing process. Gathering information and collecting important data is nearly impossible without a communication interface. The VE Camera helps solve this gap in the process by featuring some of the more common communication protocols. These protocols include Ethernet/IP, ProfiNET, Modbus TCP, and the Allen Bradley SLC controller protocol. Application: Simple inspection looking at the angle of an object. The first thing you want to do in the VE Vison manager software is to go into system setting then Communications and Industrial Protocol. Then select Ethernet/IP. Let’s click the Plus button and choose Line Detect and then angle. Finally Apply Changes. That’s it on the Camera! Now on the PLC side, once you get the software open, create a Generic Ethernet Module. Enter in the IP of camera. Your Input Instance is 101 with a size of 240, the Output Instance is 113 with a size of 240 and the Configuration is 128 with a size of 0. Finally, before clicking Accept, change your Requested Pack Interval to 100ms. Then perform your download. You will see the data coming back from the camera. You can see the map of how the information is being pushed to the PLC in the VE software. As you can see, setup is pretty simple and straight forward. There’s a lot of information from the camera that can be shared which makes the VE Smart Camera an extremely powerful tool.
