⛵ What to do if you run out of fuel at sea? Find out everything in this video! In this video, we talk about a situation that can happen even to the most experienced sailors: running out of fuel at sea. We explain how to prevent it, what to do in an emergency, how to use the VHF correctly and what the rules (and costs) are for towing at sea. Essential content for anyone who goes boating, whether sailing or motorboating. --- ✅ Prevention is everything Before going out to sea, it is essential to carefully calculate the fuel you will need. The advice is simple but often ignored: *always carry at least 30% more* fuel than estimated based on the duration of the voyage and the average fuel consumption of the engine. Example: if you expect 4 hours of sailing at an average consumption of 100 litres/hour, prepare at least **520 litres**, taking into account the reserve. --- 🚨 What to do if you run out of fuel at sea? If this happens, don't panic. 1. **Use the VHF radio**, tuning in to **channel 16**, dedicated to emergency communications with the Harbour Master's Office. 2. **Explain the situation clearly**. Don't worry about technical language: it is more important to be clear than perfect. If you don't know how to use the VHF, say so openly. 3. **Follow the instructions**: you will be provided with assistance, often by means of a tow to the nearest port. --- 💰 Towing costs money! Remember that those who rescue you are using time, fuel and resources. It is not a free service: **towing must be paid for**, even if only out of gratitude or to cover expenses. In international cases or with commercial vessels, you may end up paying **up to 5% of the value of the cargo or vessel**, but for pleasure craft, the figures are more reasonable. --- 📲 Are there apps for finding fuel at sea? There are no specific apps for “marine petrol stations”, but *nautical GPS maps* (such as Garmin) show points of interest, including ports with fuel stations. This information is often included in nautical navigation apps and boat GPS devices. --- 🤝 Common sense at sea Whether you are providing assistance or receiving it, **always behave with respect and fairness**. The sea belongs to everyone, but it requires responsibility. --- 👉 *Watch the full video to find out all the details, practical examples and useful tips to make sure you never run out of fuel!* *Subscribe to the Nautica & Peeler channel so you don't miss out on more content like this.* *Fair winds!* 📌 Meet me at the BARCHE BELLANDI shipyard in Via Vò s/n, 25015 Desenzano del Garda (BS). 🛥 Are you a fan of the marine world?
