Didn't quite make the cut in Rohan Connolly's top 10 games of 1993 but made the honourable mentions list. At this stage in the season, Fitzroy were in 4th position, Essendon were 8th. The Lions had some giant-killing wins over Carlton, West Coast and Collingwood, whereas Essendon were just starting to hit their stride. There was a bit of drama in the Fitzroy coaches box in the first quarter where it was discovered there was a crossed line with the phones so Lions coach Robert Shaw was able to hear Kevin Sheedy give instructions to the Essendon runner. Seemed to come in handy given the quarter time score but that's where it let up after Fitzroy's chairman of selectors, Bill Stephen, talked Shaw into alerting Sheedy to the problem.
