BALINIT® MAYURA is used for processing of non-ferrous metals. The coating is thin, smooth, and with a high hardness, making it ideal for the machining of aluminium alloys with up to 12% silicon content, copper and brass alloys, or polymers. Tool manufacturers as well as end users in the automobile and aerospace industries, injection molders and mold-makers, benefit from a number of advantageous properties. In a benchmark at Oerlikon Balzers’ own test laboratory BALINIT® MAYURA has shown impressive results when machining an aluminium alloy. Three identical endmills of the same type from the same manufacturer had to undergo a dry cutting test with air flow: Uncoated, coated with a DLC coating and BALINIT® MAYURA. The uncoated tool broke after a distance of 6.8 metres (22.3 feet), while the DLC-coated endmill reached a distance of 14 metres (45.9 feet), with both showing a difficult chip evaporation and ragged built up after 3 metres (9.8 feet). BALINIT® MAYURA with its outstanding properties, outperformed both. The surface on the endmill was still well preserved and the workpiece showed an excellent surface quality even after 15 metres (49.2 feet) after machining. The advantages of BALINIT® MAYURA at glance: High hardness (over 65 GPa) increases tool life even for highly abrasive materials High wear resistance improves the surface quality on the workpiece Extremely thin coating enables ultra-sharp cutting edge and tight tolerances Higher service temperatures compared to DLC coating enable dry machining For more information about BALINIT MAYURA visit: https://www.oerlikon.com/balzers/glob...
