Insertion of Camino ICP monitor is a common bedside procedure performed by neurosurgery residents. The setup and ongoing monitoring requires various equipment and collaboration from residents and nursing personnel, but not all hospital staff receive dedicated training with this monitoring system. We aim to create a quick reference for proper Camino ICP monitoring and setup that can be utilized by hospital staff with various levels of training. or face difficulty surrounding Camino ICP monitor setup and serial monitoring. Management of severe TBI patients using information from ICP monitoring is recommended to reduce in-hospital and 2 week post-injury mortality. Indications for ICP monitoring in salvageable patients: GCS 3-8 with abnormal head CT (contusion, swelling, herniation, etc.) Severe TBI with normal head CT if 2+ criteria met: Greater than 40 years old Decorticate or decerebrate motor posturing Systolic blood pressure less than 90 mmHg After monitor is placed, there are specific ICP parameters in severe TBI patients that should raise suspicion for elevated intracranial pressures. Based on Brain Trauma Foundation (BTF) guidelines, RNs should promptly notify neurosurgery personnel when BOTH conditions met: ICP threshold: 22mmHg Duration: 5 minutes A simplified guide and informational video with step-by-step instructions were created to serve as a quick reference when troubleshooting the Camino ICP monitoring system, including necessary equipment and setup.
