Reel #13 of the films in the George Flowers Collection, this 1979 16mm reel contains B-roll and anchor footage related to the delivery of the Boeing windmill blades for the NASA-Department of Energy windmill erected atop Howard's Knob in Boone, NC, and later dedicated on July 11, 1979. The Department of Energy awarded the experimental project to the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative in 1977. George Flowers is believed to have shot this footage for a North Carolina television station. This B-roll footage contains scenes from a number of Watauga County-area locations, including the blades coming up what was then known as Howard's Knob Road (present-day Eastview Avenue and East Junaluska Road) near the intersection of Eastbrook and Hunting Roads and above. Some news anchor framing footage also appears on this reel. After a failure of the windmill's drive train in 1981, the federal government removed the windmill from Howard's Knob and auctioned it in 1983.
