Dungeness is one of the most unique and atmospheric landscapes in England – a vast shingle wilderness on the Kent coast that feels like stepping into another world. In this video, I take you behind the lens for a photography adventure at Dungeness, joined by my granddaughter, who makes the day even more special. Together, we explore everything that makes Dungeness such a fascinating location for photographers: 📸 Miniature Railway – The famous Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, with its tiny trains chugging across the wide open landscape, is a dream to capture. The scale and detail provide endless opportunities for creative shots. 📸 Lighthouses – Dungeness is home to not one but two iconic lighthouses. The modern one still serves sailors today, while the historic old lighthouse stands tall as a relic of maritime history. Both are striking landmarks against the bleak, dramatic skies. 📸 Derelict Houses & Cars – Scattered across the shingle are haunting reminders of the past: abandoned fishing huts, weathered cottages, and rusting cars left to decay. These make for moody, textural photography subjects that feel timeless. 📸 The Wilderness of Dungeness – Sometimes called “Britain’s only desert,” this National Nature Reserve is unlike anywhere else. The vast expanse of shingle, dotted with rare plants and birdlife, is a place of raw beauty and solitude – perfect for landscape photography. But this isn’t just about photography. It’s also about sharing the experience with family. Having my granddaughter along for the day made it even more memorable.
