A natural swimming hole set in a scenic glen, Kilgore Falls is billed as the second highest vertical waterfall in the state of Maryland. A 67 acre portion of Rocks State Park surrounds Falling Branch Creek and the waterfall area. The falls are accessible via a half mile trail from a small parking area on Falling Branch Road. Old stone ruins, wildflowers, and unique rock outcroppings add to the beauty of the area. WARNING - A permit and reservation are required to access the falls from May to September, and there are NO facilities- bathrooms, tables, trash cans etc. The park has dealt with overcrowding and its associated issues in the last several years. Please, Please, Please, respect the land - observe, enjoy, and be conscious of the plants, animals, water, and nearby landowners. I was fortunate to have this typically busy site largely to myself on this dreary mid April day, and although the trail system is small, it does pack some interesting suprises...
