This video documents Chuffed Skates' recent visit to the remote Aboriginal community in Ltyente Apurte. It was the first time rollerskating visited the community, and we were so stoked to deliver workshops alongside Spinifex Skateboards. This project was funded by an NT Government Youth Activity Grant, and the skates and safety gear will remain permanently with the community to grow rollerskating and its impacts for years to come. The skatepark in Ltyentye Apurte is the first of its kind in an Aboriginal community. Thanks to the Atyenhenge-atherre Aboriginal Corporation we will be returning to the community in late 2024 to continue the workshops and the growth of roller skating with the youth. This video is already being used to help with future applications for funding to improve the skatepark with lights and landscaping, and to advocate for more parks like this in other locations. A big thank you to Spinifex founder Nicky Hayes for his vision, and his drive to include rollerskating in the local programs; to skaters Tia Pitman, Sam Trayhurn, Bevin Newton and Danny Campbell for their time, expertise and passion; to David Jagger for the help we needed to make the trip a reality; and to Leon Tripp and Carly Kennedy for all their assistance along the way. Filmed on Central and Eastern Arrernte country. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, and all others throughout the nation. Always was, always will be. Shot and edited by Gab Zussino with additional clips filmed by the local youth. Sponsored by Chuffed Skates, with support from the Northern Territory Government, Atyenhenge Atherre Aboriginal Corporation, Spinifex Skateboards, Songline Skateboards, S1 Helmets and Trinity Distribution.
