About the session: In this session Dr. Tonia Poteat, Professor at Duke University School of Nursing, Associate Director of the Duke Center for AIDS Research, presents "Advancing Equity in HIV Care and Prevention for LGBTQ+ Communities", a training designed to Evaluate current practices in HIV prevention and treatment, with an emphasis on reducing stigma and improving outcomes for LGBTQ+ communities. About the 2025 LGBTQ+ Health Summit: This two-day training, proudly sponsored by AFFA and created in collaboration with our expert content team, is facilitated by CEU Creations. Day one builds foundational knowledge of the health disparities, systemic barriers, and social experiences faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, with a focus on trauma-informed care, inclusive practices, and intersectionality. Participants will engage in discussion-based and didactic sessions to enhance their ability to deliver competent, affirming services across healthcare, social work, and mental health settings, with attention to marginalized subpopulations within the LGBTQ+ community. Day two advances care through specialized medical knowledge, legal context, and advocacy strategies. Participants will gain clinical insights into gender-affirming care, HIV prevention and treatment, and the unique needs of LGBTQ+ populations in medical settings. Legal and policy discussions highlight current protections and barriers, concluding with a call to action for integrating advocacy into professional roles.
