On the first day of scrutiny of the 2026 Budget Estimates, I brought into focus the backlog of more than 30,000 letters of interest for state lands, pressing the government on delays in land surveys and housing-related applications. I was told that all surveys scheduled for 2025 have been completed, but I pointed out that thousands of applicants remain waiting, particularly in Region Four, which has the highest number of pending requests. I questioned a system that requires Cabinet approval before land applications for housing, agriculture and other uses can even be processed by the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission, arguing that this structure fuels delays, frustration and uncertainty. I made it clear that unresolved land backlogs continue to undermine housing delivery and economic opportunity, and that I will keep pursuing this issue in Parliament to demand transparency, accountability and timely service to the people.
