US actor Elliott Gould has starred in a string of iconic films from MASH and The Long Goodbye to A Bridge To Far and the 3 multi-starred Oceans movies. And then there was California Split, and Bugsy. He also played the role of Jack Geller in the TV sitcom Friends. But there was one of his movies that failed to catch the public’s eye. Back in 1986 Elliott took a career gamble to star in a small film called Inside Out. Critics at the time were not impressed but lots of his fans loved it. He plays a man suffering, for many reasons, from agoraphobia, effectively trapped in his New York apartment as his life slowly crumbles around him. He orders-in just about everything, from his food to a friendly hooker. It’s an engaging, but at times, frustrating film. I grabbed a very quick interview with Elliott when the film was about to be released and he also talked about two others he co-starred in, one with Whoopi Goldberg and the controversial movie Conspiracy: The Trial of the Chicago 8: Eliott, who was born Elliott Goldstein in New York in 1938, will turn 88 this year. He was married to Barbra Streisand for 8 years. Their son Jason is also an actor. In recent years Elliott has appeared in a number of episodes of the TV series The Lincoln lawyer.
