Cornea Colours | Keratoprosthesis (Artificial Cornea) Keratoprosthesis implantation is a procedure that involves full-thickness removal of the cornea and replacement by an artificial cornea. The Type I Keratoprosthesis consists of a clear plastic polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) optic and back plate sandwiched around a corneal graft and secured with a locking ring. Generally, patients who have a history of multiple failed PKs are candidates for a keratoprosthesis transplant. Other indications include severe keratitis or ocular surface disease resulting from limbal stem cell failure, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, aniridia and chemical injury. Here, our patient was one eyed with multiple failed grafts. Shewas a known case of ocular surface disorder but had a wet ocular surface. Her B scan was normal. She underwent Type I KPro with cataract extraction. She enjoys good vision post surgery. Disclaimer: This video is meant for the education of eye specialist. The treatment should be done by ophthalmologist based on own clinical judgment.
