Three days on a huge public venue in the Central Massif… and everything changed. After spotting carp moving unusually close in on day one — miles away from my usual long-range areas — I made a quick decision. Two rods cast out close in to showing fish… and within two hours the right-hand rod absolutely melted off. What followed was an incredible battle with a stunning, high-shouldered, dark chestnut common carp — immaculate, powerful, and everything you want from a big public water fish. Not the biggest fish in the lake… but a superb mid-40 common that had me absolutely buzzing. Then the weather turned. A cold onshore wind, dropping temperatures, no shows, no liners, no signs. The second night passed in silence. Day three, still nothing visual… but I kept the faith after moving 2 rods to the longer baited area i put them all in close as the tempos started to rise again. Into the early hours of the fourth morning — that same right-hand rod signalled again. A mid-double. A sign. The carp were drifting back. Rod clipped up. Back on the money. Then it happened again — a mid-20 mirror carp to confirm the pattern. Three fish in total so far with 2 more nights to go. A proper result on a big public lake in the Central Massif in March But this session was about more than just carp fishing. With the sale of Fensmere moving forward and personal challenges behind the scenes, this trip gave me space to reflect, reset, and focus on the bigger vision ahead — the fish farm, the future, and continuing to support every angler who fishes Fensmere while we wait to see it produce its first 80lb carp.
