Are cheaper FatBikes worth it? I was in the market for a FatBike, but didn't want one that would break the bank. This bike answered to my needs: durability and an affordable price. I first laid eyes on the Mongoose FatBikes (Dolomite, Talus, Malus, Beast, Brutus etc), however I chose this one as it had some better components, tougher and better looking frame and was priced around the same for me at a local bike shop. This bike features a steel frame sitting on alloy 26" wheels fitted with 26×4 inch tires. These wheels are the same found on the Mongoose Talus FatBike. They are a bit lighter than that of the Dolomite. All in all these bikes weigh around 45 to 50lbs when assembled. The drive train comprises of a three piece crank, SunRun cassette, and Shimano TZ Tourney derailers and KMC chain. The shifter is Shimano SIS. The brakes on the bike are the same no branded ones found on the Mongoose Fat bikes and are fairly good as they are adjustable. I've one had this bike for a short time but I must say it's pretty slow on pavement. On dirt tracks however it does perform well. I'd be making more videos using this bike as a review and a follow up review. I think it is safe to say that this class of fat bike, the cheaper ones do perform for what an average rider would use it for. They are pretty comfortable and sturdy. I can say as i weigh around 300lbs. However I do recommend spending the extra if you need the bike for the purpose of trekking through snow and sand on a daily basis. Thank you for reading.
