Overview of Tokoname City: Tokoname City is located on the western coast of the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture, covering an area of 55.90 square kilometers. It is a city that stretches lengthwise from north to south. Tokoname has been known as a pottery-producing region called "Old Tokoname" since the late Heian period. It is considered one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, and among them, Tokoname is regarded as the oldest and largest in scale. Through the Sengoku period and under the rule of the Owari Domain during the Edo period, Tokoname was later incorporated into Nukata Prefecture following the Meiji Restoration. From 1872, it became part of Aichi Prefecture. On April 1, 1954, Tokoname was established through the merger of four towns—Tokoname, Onizaki, Nishiura, and Ōno—and the village of Sanwa. Subsequently, on March 31, 1957, four areas (Ōtani, Kosugaya, Hirome, and Sakai) from the neighboring Kosugaya Town to the south were added, forming present-day Tokoname City.
