Spacewalk Into the Void by ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT of SOUND

Illinois Department of Sound (IDoS) is not a state government agency. It is a private creative partnership exploring the outer reaches of recorded and live sound. Some might describe the duo, Joe Wallace and markobarloco, as a music project, which is at least partially true. But like so many other sonic adventurers that have gone ahead of IDoS, including John Cage, Yoko Ono, Stockhausen, Fripp, Eno, Phil Milstein, Ken Nordine, Chrome, and Roky Erickson, IDoS operates on a completely different motivation than selling records or merchandise. They certainly do those things because creative people don’t eat without an income stream. But what drives the IDoS sonic space ship has more to do with science, research, and discovery.
