Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C Comp Review | Optics-Ready, Comped, and Concealable? We’re back on the range with the new *Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C Comp*, and this thing just might be the most interesting addition to the Echelon lineup yet. Springfield has taken everything people liked about the original full-size Echelon and packed it into a compact frame — *then added a factory comp*. So what’s the verdict? Is it just another gimmick, or is the Echelon 4.0C Comp a serious contender in the concealed carry + performance category? In this video, we give the Echelon 4.0C Comp our full review — from ergonomics and optics compatibility to real-world shootability. If you’re looking for a compact 9mm pistol with big-gun performance and all the modern features baked in, you’ll want to stick around. What’s New with the Echelon 4.0C Comp? The integrated compensator is built directly into the slide, offering real recoil reduction without the need for a threaded barrel. That means it fits standard 4.0C holsters, and you don’t have to go hunting for comp-friendly gear. It’s Glock 19-sized, but unlike a stock 19, the Echelon 4.0C Comp already comes loaded with modern features: Factory comp integrated into the slide Modular grip system with interchangeable backstraps Optics-ready with Springfield’s brilliant *VIZ optics interface* Suppressor-height sights standard 15 and 18 round magazines included Great grip texture, built-in gas pedal style rest Solid serrations and excellent slide geometry Aftermarket Options & Upgrades Out of the box, the Echelon 4.0C Comp doesn’t "need" much — but if you’re the type who likes to tinker, you’ve got options. There are already aftermarket metal grip modules from brands like Mischief Machine, and plenty of support for optics and sights. Holster options are growing fast. Aftermarket barrels and internal upgrades are limited (for now), but the platform is clearly gaining traction. Springfield’s modularity, especially the VIZ system, is a standout — mounting optics has never been this easy without plates or weird adapters. On the Range: Does the Comp Work? Yes. Almost too well. When running hot 115gr ammo from Global Ordnance, the recoil impulse was noticeably flatter than the standard Echelon. Follow-up shots were faster, dot bounce was reduced, and the comp did its job — without excessive blast or muzzle rise. Both shooters agreed: this thing shoots smooth. But here’s the catch: it’s not a cheat code. The Echelon platform demands good grip and fundamentals. It’s so honest that it exposes your flaws. You can’t get lazy with this gun. But that’s a good thing — it forces you to level up. Let’s Talk About the Magazine Issue… Again One lingering issue from the original Echelon remains — and no, Springfield hasn’t fixed it. You still shouldn’t use the full-size mags in the compact grip. Can you? Technically. Should you? Not really. Springfield doesn’t recommend it, and reliability suffers. It’s a minor ding, but it’s one they’ve had time to address. Still waiting, Springfield. We stuck with factory 15 and 18 round mags for this review and experienced zero malfunctions. Final Verdict: Should You Buy the Echelon 4.0C Comp? Yes. Both of us are buyers. At an MSRP of $749, the value proposition is strong. You could buy a Glock 19 for less, but by the time you add a comp, new sights, optics cut, and other upgrades — you’re already past this price point. The Echelon 4.0C Comp includes all of that out of the box. Springfield nailed it.
