Journey of a Butterfly: A Personal Story: Raquel Helen Santos Silva at TEDxBeloHorizonte

Raquel Helen Santos Silva is a 21 year old who grew up in the Santa Efigênia neighborhood of Belo Horizonte and who Michelle Obama thinks of as an example for her daughters. Raquel's life could have been very different, if it weren't for a collection of butterflies she started a few years ago. In 2011, the British Council's Global Changemakers Programme selected 18 individuals from over 1500 applicants to attend the 40th World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and Raquel, who was only 19 years old at the time, was the only Brazilian selected. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
