A hike on the West Highland Way, starting in Tyndrum and ending at the Bridge of Orchy. The walk's only around 7 miles and there are no big hills or mountains to climb. There are, of course, lots of views of mountains. Indeed, this has to be one of the best scenic highlights on the West Highland Way, in that the view of Beinn Dorain by Auch is breathtaking. The West Highland Way follows an old military road at this location, passing under Beinn Odhar and offering the sort of views towards and beyond Beinn Dorain that Scotland is quite rightly famous for. During the walk we spend a little time talking about the Legend of the Stone Gatherer and how walkers should be very careful when walking in the dark because the Stone Gatherer never likes to be disturbed as he gathers small boulders and places them in piles. If ever you're wondering about tackling the West Highland Way but plan to try just one day to see what it's like, then this is the section for you. Bus and train services are available at Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy, although the service is infrequent and some planning is required. Hotels and other accommodation is available at both locations. A Scottish hike on Scotland's first long-distance walking route that you will remember for the rest of your days.
