A heart-wrenching road accident has shaken Berhampur after a speeding truck rammed into three motorcycles on the busy Haladiapadar overbridge, claiming the lives of five people on the spot. The incident occurred when a truck heading from Gosaninuagaon towards the National Highway lost control, swerved to the right, and ran over the bikers. The collision took place on the crowded overbridge, causing panic among commuters. The deceased have been identified as Suryanarayan Panda, Jagan Nahak, Rakesh Nahak, Shibaram Jena, and Satyanath Bej. The truck driver has been detained, and police are investigating the exact cause of the accident. The Southern Range IG visited the accident site to assess the situation. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has announced an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the families of the deceased. Instructions have also been issued to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured.
