Unissued / unused footage - dates and locations may be unclear / unknown. Location of events unknown. C/Us of Melvyn Belli (a lawyer?) being interviewed. He talks of the kinds of cases his firm takes on - those that attract a lot of publicity. Interviewer mentions soldiers and "the Jack Rubies of the world". Interviewer says that Belli has a reputation of getting away with murder in the courtroom and Belli talks of acting in a dignified manner in court. Interviewer mentions the case of Jack Ruby and Lee Harvey Oswald and asks if that was the most fascinating case Belli took on. Belli talks of looking bad during the case. He mentions the Lee Shepherd (?) case, and mentions clamping down on pre-trial publicity. He talks of Richard Nixon saying Manson (Charles?) is guilty and predicts the outcome of the remark. Interviewer asks what is Manson's chance on trial when the President has made the remark. Belli says he will get a conviction, sentenced to death, it will be reversed, he'll be brought back and re-trialed and by then capital punishment will be outlawed in the United States. Belli talks of the Sirhan case. Asked if there is a case he would not take on, Belli says that the right to watch a dirty film or see a topless is the same right that one day may give you a right to go into a church of your choosing. He says if you're going to be a lawyer you can't be a moralist. FILM ID:3293.02 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV.
