Tantallon Castle, Stronghold of William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas. One of the most formidable East Lothian fortifications. A castle attacked by Kings of Scotland, James the IV and V, and English invader, Oliver Cromwell, and later described at length by Sir Walter Scott in his 1808 epic poem Marmion.
