Why BROWN BEARS beat TIGERS

Subscribe:    / creaturechallenge   Who would win between a brown bear and a tiger? Watch to the end to find out :) In this video, I discuss why brown bears (Grizzly bears and Ussuri brown bears) would beat a tiger in a head-to-head fight; It's not even close. Meaning of Grizzly bear's name: https://blog.nwf.org/2015/12/grizzly-... Grizzly bear size range: https://web.archive.org/web/202307192... Kodiak bear size: https://archive.org/details/guinnessb... Ussuri brown bear size: http://www.bearconservation.org.uk/us... One study concerning Siberian tiger (Amur tiger) predation rate: https://www.researchgate.net/publicat... Another study for Siberian tiger food consumption: https://www.researchgate.net/publicat... Brown bears: This is one of the largest and most famous bear species on the planet. The Brown bear species cover a wide range of bears, including perhaps the most famous one; the Grizzly bear. The scientific name of the Grizzly bear is "Ursus arctos horribilis", which translates to the dreadful brown bear for a good reason. These bears are known to be very territorial and have the strength to easily ragdoll a human with ease. Grizzly bears have thick fur lined with thick layers of fat which makes them very durable. In fact, Grizzly bears have been known to survive certain gunshots, and getting hit by a car going pretty fast. So, how big are Grizzly bears? Well, mature male interior Grizzlies weigh between 425-675 lbs, however, Grizzlies in the coastal region of Alaska get much larger. Mature male coastal Grizzlies average around 870 lbs. That is a huge bear! But how about the other bear I mentioned in the video? The Ussuri brown bear. This bear is famous for living in the same region as the Siberian tiger. It's also really large as well. Adult males typically weigh between 440 - 1,300 lbs. These bears are similar in build to grizzly bears, but perhaps one distinguishing factor is that they have a less bulky shoulder region. I did not include the Kodiak bear in this video for obvious reasons; the Kodiak bear is similar in size to Polar bears, and would absolutely stomp any tiger in a fight. Tigers: In this video, we discussed the two largest subspecies of tigers, those being Siberian tiger and Bengal tiger. These big cats are one of the largest hyper land carnviores roaming the Earth right now. Siberian tigers, despite their large reputation, are actually the second largest tiger behind the Bengal tiger. Currently, wild male Siberian tigers weigh between 353 - 418 lbs, with the average falling somewhere around 389 lbs. Siberian tigers, also known as Amur tigers, are famous for their bear-hunting abilities. Yes, Siberian tigers have been known to hunt bears, such as Black bear, but hesitate and struggle to take on Brown bears. All the brown bears they've hunted where either subs or females while hibernating, or by ambushing them. Tigers, just like the other big cats (lions, leopards, and jaguars) are ambush predators, so they do not like head-on confrontations. This could explain why there have been zero recorded cases of Siberian tigers trying to hunt adult male Ussuri brown bears; the adult brown bears are too risky. However, moving onto the Bengal tiger, it gets pretty interesting. There actually isn't a whole lot of information concerning their sizes. From what I could find, mature male Bengal tigers weigh between 368 - 515 lbs, with the average falling around 420 lbs. Tigers are known to be very agile and quick. They have the most flexible spine out of the big cats. This enables them to be very jolty, and springy. In fact, the main way they fight is unique among big cats. Tigers like to stand up and swat at each other with their paws, which is very similar to how bears fight.
