Rest in peace Bernard "Buddy" Rich September 30, 1917 April 2, 1987 The video here is something Buddy Rich fans might've seen a thousand times, but never online quite the way it's being presented here. It's from Buddy Rich's last public performance - the PBS broadcast of "Sentimental Swing: The Music of Tommy Dorsey", featuring the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra under the direction of Buddy Morrow. Though the audio source itself leaves a bit to be desired, I think I was able to lend it plenty of punch with enough sharp edge on the original stereo sound to make even Rip Van Winkle do a little jig. ;) Recorded live at the Hollywood Palladium on January 5th, 1987, broadcast on August 15th, 1987, here's my own presentation of Buddy Rich sitting in with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra playing "Hawaiian War Chant" - with sound engineered by yours truly AND every last missed frame perfectly synchronized to every drum stroke. ;) Dig.....
