Song words based on Psalm 116. The scenes of lakes and rivers in this video communicate the sense of being settled and at rest compared to surrounding geography. This also pictures a spiritual condition. The human soul is subject to all kinds of troubles and trials, often causing restlessness and anxiety. However a deeper level of spirit and heart provides rest for the soul because of the presence, company, comfort and friendship of the Spirit of Christ connected with the believer's spirit. The original writer of this psalm was able to look in the rearview mirror of his experiences and see how God had been with him all along during every hardship and suffering. Realizing God is a "very present help in times of trouble" provides a forward-looking faith, hope and confidence that He will always be there for us because of his faithful love and mercies. Jesus taught his followers to seek and find "rest for your souls" because He operated from that place of rest during his own life and ministry. He said "My yoke is easy and my burden is light..." because He trusted in the Father and the holy Spirit for guidance and anointing for words and deeds: "I can't do anything of myself; but the Father who is in me does everything." Believers easily fall into presumption on the soul level and mistakenly attempt to mentally take matters into their own hands, sometimes in a manipulative way. This leads into misunderstandings and false beliefs. But the place of safety and trust is located within the foundation of the believer's heart where Christ lives. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding (which is in the soul)." The childlike faith we've been given as a precious gift is the source and resource we can always return to, to find rest for our souls. Psalm 23: "...He restores my soul..." follows the phrase "...He leads me beside quiet waters...". Jesus reportedly spent a lot of quiet time with the Father in order to hear and see clearly how to proceed and function obediently throughout his life and ministry, even at the young age of 12, where He told his earthly parents, "...I must be about my Father's business...". Drawing from my past experiences of quiet times with God, this video seeks to self-encourage my inward connection with Christ to seek and find that place in my heart where He dwells, to reaffirm and remind me of that place of joint-rest with him, for the life and rest of my soul.
