Moving from the surface of the processor to the outermost environment where the laptop is being used: 1. Cleaning dust and debris from the cooling fan and heat exchanger. 2. Changing dry thermal grease 3. Check the alignment of the flat surface of the heatsink. 4. Check the speed of your cooling fan, if for some reason you observe some loud spinning sound from your cooling fan over a prolonged period of time, then it is likely that your laptop is overheating and the fan is under pressure to provide cooling for your processor. 5. Next, you want to check the airflow under and around your laptop. 6. Avoid using your laptop in beds and sofas over a long period of time. 7. When you make a major upgrade to your laptop (e.g. Upgrading the processor) also upgrade the cooling system. 8. Your room temperature also matters. Keeping your laptop in an air-conditioned or cool environment would allow your system to cool down and prevent it from overheating. An additional tip would be switching from a mechanical hard drive to an SSD if you have the option to do so.
