#Kinanskan #cassiar #Meziadin decided for our second road trip to #Alaska we would do the customary route through Canada in reverse, taking the famed Cassiar Highway North to Alaska, and returning South on the Alcan Highway. This provided a completely different prospective with regard to view from our 2022 Journey to Alaska from Florida ! We first visited Kinaskan Lake Provincial Park in 2022 and liked it so much we just had to get back there someday -- well someday arrived in 2024 ! CHECK OUT OUR 9 Episode 2022 RV TRIP SOUTHBOUND ON THE CASSIAR • The Complete Stewart Cassiar Hwy An 8 Part... @GoldenAnniversaryAdventure The #journey Begins: Kitwanga & Gitwangak Battle Hill Your journey typically begins in the small town of Kitwanga, where the #Cassiar Highway branches off from Highway 16. Before heading north, take a few moments to explore Gitwangak Battle Hill National Historic Site, once a fortified village and an important part of Gitxsan First Nation history. Towering totem poles also dot the area, hinting at the region's rich cultural heritage. #Meziadin Junction & Meziadin Lake Provincial Park As you head north, the first major stop worth exploring is Meziadin Junction — the gateway to the stunning #Stewart-Cassiar Glacier Route. A quick detour west on Highway 37A takes you to Meziadin Lake Provincial Park, a perfect overnight stop for camping, fishing, and watching eagles soar over the water. #BearGlacier & The Road to Stewart and #Hyder Continuing west on the same spur, you’ll encounter the mesmerizing Bear Glacier, spilling dramatically down from the mountains toward the roadside — one of the most accessible glaciers in British Columbia. Just beyond lies the charming frontier town of Stewart, BC, and across the border, the quirky and photogenic ghost-town-turned-adventure-stop of Hyder, Alaska. Here, you can visit the Fish Creek Wildlife Observation Site, where grizzly bears and black bears feast on spawning salmon in late summer. A further drive (weather and road conditions permitting) leads to the surreal, moonlike landscape of #salmon Glacier, one of the largest road-accessible glaciers in the world. This is a photographer’s paradise and one of the most awe-inspiring views in all of North America. #Kinaskan Lake & Provincial Park Serenity Back on the Cassiar, heading north, you'll come across Kinaskan Lake Provincial Park, an ideal place to camp under the stars beside a glistening alpine lake. The calm waters reflect the surrounding peaks, and you might spot moose or even hear wolves howling at night. Wildlife, Wilderness, and Solitude Throughout the journey, expect to see black bears grazing along the roadside, moose crossing marshes, and perhaps even caribou or lynx if you're lucky. The Cassiar Highway is remote — gas stations and services are sparse — so plan accordingly, carry extra fuel, and download offline maps. But this isolation is part of the charm. There’s no better road for those seeking raw nature and real adventure.
